Instructor Resources

This is the FAQ page for Instructors. Your roll is critical in establishing the standard of safety across our club well as the positive experience of our members. Following consistent and transparent process makes expectations clear for all.

  • You are permitted to conduct one demo flight with prospective members.
  • After this they need to join the club if they want to continue.

  • Checkout should conform to the flight portion of a 61.56 review.
  • A members first aircaft checkout is also their BFF checkout flight.
  • Checkout should conform to the flight portion of a 61.56 review.
  • You have no obligation to pass a member on the first flight. If you have any uncertainty about their capability or proficiency you are encouraged to consult with the chief flight instructor.
  • This may coincice with a flight review, airport checkout, or BFF checkout
  • Instructor must follow process on the aircaft checkout page including 1) ensure the member has completed the aircraft questionaire prior to flight 2) review with them prior to flight 3) sign and submit their logbook entry on the aircraft checkout process page
  • Instructor will be provided access to the google drive where completed aircraft questionaires are stored.

  • Required for members to maintain currency.
  • Checkout should conform to a 61.56 checkout with additional questions related to BFF rules and regulations, and KSNA operations.
  • This may coincide with an Aircraft checkout, airport checkout, or BFF checkout flight.
  • Flight Reviews should be signed off as a 61.56 Review and submitted on the document submission page
  • If flight review coincides with an aircraft or airport checkout, submit in the associated section for this.

Before being endorsed for solo flight and in addition to all of the preparation deemed necessary by the instructor / FARs, the following should be completed:

  1. (studentt) complete the aircraft checkout questionairre and (instructor/student) review the document and any items that were incorrect.
  2. Pre-solo stage check, contact our Chief Flight instructor to schedule this.

  • After solo, instructor should submit the signed logbook entry on the aircraft checkout page

  • These are highly encouraged but are at the discretion of the instructor
  • Instructor may coordinate with any BFF instructors at their discretion.

  • 5 Reasons they may be prevented from scheduling on schedule master. These are listed on FAQ page in nore detail (no payment form, unpaid flight, not checked out in type, expired medical, expired flight review)
  • DA40 cover - front has a small piece of fabric. Front strap goes in fron of nosewheel. Rear strap goes behind comm 2 antenna. If it doesn't fit like a glove you put it on wrong and it will get blown off.
  • PA28 primer - if you experience rough idling or pronounced vibration in a decent this is most likely because the primer is not locked. Please ensure that you check this.
  • Master Switch left on - this will likely ruin the battery and cost $1000. Never switch the strobes or position lights off during shutdown. These are the best way to ensure you didn't leave the master on.

  • Send a email to support@bearflagflyers.com, so we can add you on this website, including the following 1) instructor ratings 2) rate 3) a profile photo 4) a brief bio
  • You will be added on schedule master after your checkout flight and the above email being recieved.
  • You will be provided access to the aircraft questionaire folder
  • Included in this folder are answer sheets and a .vcf file that includes all of our member contacts - it is updated everynight so you can periodically update it with with new members. It is configured to avoid creating duplicates if you add it multiple times.
